Long faced but smiling woman with old fashoned clothing and turned up hair.
IDA LUPINO (1918-1995) last of the great Lupino theatrical family, actress, film star and Film Director went to school at Clarence House, 4 Norman Road, Hove from 1926 to 1928.....(photographed unknown) Gorgeous glamour photo; eyes down. long soft hair, plump mouth, semi closed eyes.  To die for !
RADCLYFFE HALL (1880-1943) and UNA TROUBRIDGE (1887-1963)stayed at the Park Royal Hotel on Marine Parade in 1932 when Una was recovering from her hysterectomy...... (now Park Royal Mansions)
VANESSA and VIRGINIA WOOLF (1871-1961 and 1882-1941) stayed at 9 St. Aubyns in Hove as children in the 1890s...... Tall 3 storied terrace house with bow windows. Early 19th century. Painted  white/cream with small iron balcony on the first floor.
CHARLOTTE MEW (1869-1928)the poet and her sister Anne inherited 6 Codrington Place in Kemp Town in the early 20th century. They did not visit but received income from letting the property...... White haired, sorrowfull looking lady. Line drawing.
DAME CLARA BUTT (1872-1936) the famous Edwardian contralto singer was born on 1st February 1872 at 27 Adur Terrace in Southwick just down the road from Brighton. Her most famous recording is "Land of Hope and Glory"..... photographer unknown Smiling lady, turban on her head. Big, busty. looks pleasant.
SARAH BONETTA FORBES (1802-1889) was brought as an orphan child from West Africa to this country and Queen Victoria became interested in her welfare. She lived at 17 Clifton Hill Brighton and in 1862 she was married in St. Nicholas Church.....Brighton and Hove Gazette 1862 Black lady, hand on chin. Handsome, hair long but coiled to her head. High collared Victoria dress.
FANNY BURNEY (1752-1840) the 18th Century novelist, diarist and chatterbox stayed often with Mrs Thrale at her house in West Street and enjoyed sea bathing..... Sharp nosed, smiling, picture cut  from a painting. Mischievous.
FRANCES POWER COBBE (1822-1904), writer, social reformer, feminist and anti-vivisectionist attended Miss Poggi's "Exclusive Establishment for Young Ladies" at 32 Brunswick Square in the 1830s.....(photographer unknown)
DUSTY SPRINGFIELD (born Mary O'Brien) 1939-1999, singer, star and great recording artiste bought a house for her parents in 11 Willard Road, Hove. She could be seen arriving to visit them in a pink Thunderbird..... (photographer unknown)

PRINCESS CHARLOTTE of WALES (7.1.1796 - 6.11.1817) the only child of King George 1V and Caroline of Brunswick . She is the sole female heir to the English throne to have been created Princess of Wales in her own right. She married in 1816 and died in childbirth a year later with her son. She was very popular and the country mourned her her deeply. The doctor, male, who attended her in her labour later committed suicide. Portrait, black and white. Oval face, long hair swept up, plunging neckline. heavy necklace. Every inch a princess !
MARGARET BONDFIELD (1873 - 1953) came to Brighton in 1887 as a shop assistant and worked in a Drapers' and then a Milliners in Western Road. She became active in the Shop Workers' Union and then the Labour Party. Elected as an MP in 1923 she became Minister of labour in Ramsay-Macdonald's Cabinet in 1929. She was the first woman ever to become a Cabinet Minister. Middle aged woman, nice smile. wears glasses. Thin lipped, steady gaze, wavy hair.
